Feria Urbanism has been appointed by Dorchester Town Council to help reimagine and redesign the Town Pump area of Dorchester.
We will be working alongside Winchester-based landscape design practice UBU Design, Bournemouth-based lighting designers Michael Grubb Studio and Bournemouth-based creative agency Støriie. The combination of skills, experience and enthusiasm amongst our team helped us secure the job following a competitive tender process.
Dorchester is rich in history and as the county town of Dorset, it is the focal point of the region. Within the town, the Town Pump area is arguably Dorchester's equivalent to a town square. Therefore, it is right for the town council give this space renewed attention and investment. This area has always been a central meeting point for markets, festivals, and parades. However, over the years it has become a lesser version of what it should be and once was, a deterioration which is keenly felt within the community. It should once again become the proud heart of the town. Our work will help realise this potential.
The project is not just a theoretical design exercise. Our commission includes extensive community engagement to develop concept designs right through to on-site delivery.
The Feria Urbanism team has worked on other civic design and public realm projects in Bournemouth, Bexleyheath, Southampton, Maidstone and at the Tower of London. If you wish to know more about these other civic design and public realm projects, please get in touch.
