Feria Urbanism has been appointed by Eastleigh Borough Council to develop a community engagement and design strategy for 5,300 new homes north of Bishopstoke and Fair Oak in Hampshire. This development represents the preferred strategic growth option in the submitted local plan, scheduled for examination later in 2019.

Our task will be to engage the local communities most affected by this development to understand their concerns and aspirations. The results of this process will then be used to influence and shape an existing technical master plan, informed purely by the site’s constraints and opportunities. The aim will be to create a locally-responsive and community-led master plan using the technical plan as a base.

We will use a range of techniques – including focus groups, panel discussions, design workshops, structured site visits and targeted questionnaires – to gather and apply the information to the existing technical plan. The final stage of the project will be a reporting phase. This is likely to shape future work on a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that captures the results of the engagement process.

The Feria Urbanism team has worked on similar large housing strategies in Dorchester, Hassocks in West Sussex and in Whitehill Bordon, Hampshire. If you wish to know more about these other projects, please get in touch.
